Lexus and The Weinstein Company’s annual Short Film series is a short film competition like no other. Still in its infancy, this will be the third annual competition for emerging and aspiring filmmakers.
Rather than asking short film makers to submit their already created mini masterpieces, for the first time ever, directors are being given the opportunity to submit a 20-minute short film as an example of their talent, potential and ability. The four winners will then be given the resources to create a new short film under the umbrella theme of ‘Anticipation’.
Film impresario Harvey Weinstein of the Weinstein Company said, “The Lexus Short Film series is an excellent way to recognize new filmmakers and bring attention to the short film format. Over the past two years, we have seen that there is an incredible amount of undiscovered talent. We are thrilled to once again partner with Lexus on this exciting endeavour and continue to discover and shine a light on up-and-coming filmmakers from around the world.”
On the merit of their previous submissions, the four finalists will be selected and announced on 15 November 2015 at the closing awards ceremonies at the Napa Valley Film Festival, with production starting as soon as the following month.
Brenda Lhormer, Co-Founder/Director of the Napa Valley Film Festival comments, "We are thrilled to be a partner with the Lexus Short Film Series and The Weinstein Company, two organizations that share our passion for nurturing emerging filmmakers. The announcement of the competition winners at our Awards Ceremony is sure to be a highlight of our Closing Night Festivities."
On completion of their short films, the four finalists will each receive money-can’t-buy prizes, including first look deals courtesy of The Weinstein Company, promotional theatrical distribution, a promotional tour of top film festivals around the world and a state-of-the-art at-home filmmaking and editing suite. The filmmakers also all return to the Napa Valley Film Festival in 2016 where all four films will be shown together for the first time in a world premiere event.
David Glasser, COO at The Weinstein Company adds, “We are thrilled to partner again with Lexus on the Lexus Short Films series. We are dedicated to finding new and exciting ways of storytelling while also discovering untapped talent. This program is a perfect combination of both and we all look forward to seeing the next great filmmakers that come to the surface in the third year.”
